The back story

About Valle de Bravo: the lake in the pines

Valle de Bravo, in the State of Mexico, is one of the country’s best-known Pueblos Mágicos, about two hours from Mexico City, on the shore of a man-made lake (State of Mexico tourism office, turismo.edomex.gob.mx). Its whitewashed town of tiled roofs and cobbled streets fills at weekends with sailors, paragliders and families from the capital.

Getting there

By car west via Toluca; or take the Tren El Insurgente to Toluca and continue by road.

The lake

Boats and sailing on the lake, walks in the pines, and the town’s cobbled centre.

By car to the west, via Toluca; allow the morning.

Our advice: stay the weekend; the drive is too long to do there and back in a day without hurry.
